Cleanup event coming to McGough Nature Park
LARGO — The city of Largo is partnering with Keep Pinellas Beautiful for the next Great American Cleanup event at McGough Nature Park on Saturday, March 30, beginning at 9 a.m.
This event aims to mobilize volunteers to eliminate litter and enhance the park and its surroundings.
Volunteers should wear closed-toe shoes, sun protection, and weather-appropriate clothing. Keep Pinellas Beautiful will provide all cleanup supplies. A water refill station will be available, but bring a reusable water bottle. Parking will be available at McGough.

Gaming, comic convention returns to Largo
LARGO — The Playcon Gaming and Comic Convention, a celebration of all things gaming, comics, and nerd culture, will be held Saturday, April 27, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the Highland Recreation Complex.
Presented by Peter Pop Art, Playcon will offer gaming competitions, cosplay contests, panels, and an array of vendors catering to many aspects of the gaming and comic world.
Tickets are $7 in advance and $10 the day of the event. Children 11 and under are free. Tickets are available online at LargoEvents.com or at the Highland Recreation Complex, 400 Highland Ave NE.

Commission marks Women’s History Month
LARGO — City commissioners celebrated Women’s History Month March 5, as AARP recognized the city as an age-friendly community.
The commission issued a proclamation recognizing March as Women’s History Month, with Jennifer Young being named this year’s honoree. Young is chairperson of the Pinellas Coalition to End Domestic Violence and has been a member of the Pinellas Intimate Partner Fatality Review Team for many years. She also teaches two courses on intimate partner violence through St Petersburg College.
Largo Police Senior Services Officer Joel Quattlebaum presented a proclamation recognizing Largo as an age-friendly community. The Age-Friendly Community Proclamation commemorates the city of Largo joining the American Association of Retired Persons Age-Friendly Communities network and recognizes the city’s ongoing efforts to enhance the quality of life for older adults in our community.
Engineering Services Director Jerry Woloszynski accepted an award for Wastewater Project of the Year from the Florida region of the Design-Build Institute of America.
As a result of this project, the city noted in a press release, the wastewater treatment plant successfully reduced the total nitrogen in the effluent discharge to Feather Sound and the Environmental Services Department was able to seek Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s approval to conclude an 18-year Consent Order.
Share breakfast with the Bunny
LARGO — The Highland Recreation Center will host “Breakfast with the Bunny” Saturday, March 23, from 9:30- 11 a.m.
Breakfast will be from Largo Family Restaurant. The morning will include crafts, dancing, games, a mini outdoor egg hunt and photos with the Bunny.Admission is $10 per child and $4 per adult. All adults must pay admission regardless of eating breakfast. Children 6 months and under are free.
This event is tailored for children ages 6 and under. Don’t forget to bring your basket!

Family Fun Day to offer savings
LARGO — Mark your calendars for a day of family delight at Southwest Recreation Complex’s Family Fun Day! Join the city of Largo on Sunday, April 7, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for an action-packed extravaganza!
The day’s activities will include bounce houses, food vendors, music, arts and crafts, and a scavenger hunt.
Plus, non-residents of Largo can snag Rec Memberships at Largo resident rates. Non-residents can purchase the annual Basic Membership for just $10 or go big with the Annual Membership Plus+ for only $50.
