A toy, a scarf, a blanket, or even a teddy bear can feel special if it’s made with love.
For four years, in a corner of Avon Park, a family has started a legacy, winning hearts through knitting and embroidering works of art that have reached many places.
K&A Creations is a local business founded by 69-year-old Kathy Barnhart and 32-year-old Ashleigh Barnhart, mother and daughter. They have dedicated the last four years to creating unique pieces of their knitting, with a special focus on handmade hats, stuffed animals, blankets, and much more.
This business has grown among people who support new ventures, and their hard work and handmade crochet have made them well-known within the community.
This family’s passion spans generations. Kathy’s mother, Gloria, taught her the art of crochet when she was only 11 years old. Kathy also taught Ashleigh when she was 15, and four years ago, they decided to start their own business.
“When I started, my mom taught me step by step, but I would get stuck and have to take breaks to refresh my mind, and then I would come back with more desire to finish what I started,” Ashleigh said.
Although this business doesn’t have a physical location, they make it their mission to attend as many events as possible to raise awareness about them in the community. They manage to participate in more than 120 events per year in Highlands County.
Their next event will be the Back to School Bash at Lakeshore Mall in Sebring in August. However, they also accept special orders or requests; just contact them at 305-896-4362.
This business also sells its products to the public through fairs and exhibitions. K&A Creations works with three different materials – polyester, chenille, and Bernat. However, customers mostly request chenille for its softness.
“I can see myself working on this for the rest of my life. People’s reactions and excitement mean a lot to me,” said Ashleigh, who dedicates many hours of work to putting her best effort into each piece.
Although prices depend on the size and material of the toy, this business always offers options in different materials, sizes and colors.
“The cows are one of the most popular. We appreciate your help with our small business because if you go to Walmart, you can find a toy, but ours are made with love and are helping our small business,” Kathy said.
These business owners enjoy their work, and every detail they weave is made with love. “I see myself working in my business for the rest of my life; this is my passion,” Ashleigh said.
K&A Creations undoubtedly stands out for the quality of their crochet works, which reflect their deep commitment and passion.
