🦖 National Fossil Day at the Bishop Museum

Saturday, Oct. 11, 201 10th St. W., Bradenton, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

Head to the Bishop Museum of Science and Nature for a celebrate National Fossil Day (which falls on Oct. 15). Activities include the museum’s Florida Fossil Table, which showcases specimens from the museum’s collections, crafts, a scavenger hunt, fossil tours, guest educators and special presentations and more. 🎸 John Prine’s Birthday Celebration Concert

Saturday, Oct. 11, 525 Kumquat Court, Sarasota, 8 p.m. 

Grant Peeples hosts a night of song celebrating the birthday of the late John Prine, one of America’s most beloved songwriters, whose hits include “Angel from Montgomery,” “Sam Stone,” “Paradise” and more. Peeples will be joined by Passerine, Reckless Saints and Matt Burke (of Have Gun Will Travel). The Swift Tribute Band pays homage to the pop superstar at Venice Performing Arts Center this week.

Monday, Oct. 13, 140 Tampa Ave. W., Venice, 7:30 p.m.

Building on the momentum of The Life of a Showgirl, Swift’s latest album, the Swift Tribute Band takes the stage at Venice Performing Arts Center for a performance that spans all of the superstar singer’s eras. Click here for tickets, which start at $25, and more information.

🍻 Park-tober Fest at The Bay

Sunday, Oct. 12, 1055 Blvd. of the Arts, Sarasota, 5-7 p.m.

The DeLeon Family Band returns to The Bay to perform traditional “oompah”-style music—and more—at this free event. Participate in the “chicken dance,” compete in a Steinhoisting contest or play a game of cornhole. The Nest Café will be serving German-inspired and locally crafted brews, brats and soft pretzel sticks with beer cheese for purchase. Click here for more information.

🎃 A Symphonic Spooktacular Halloween Concert

Friday, Oct. 10, 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 11, 3:30 p.m. , 1 Indian Ave., Venice

The Venice Symphony conjures up a Halloween celebration with musical favorites including the scores from A Night on Bald MountainPsycho and The Sorcerer’s Apprentice (with film clips from Disney’s Fantasia). 🎤 An Evening with Melba Moore

Monday, Oct. 13, 1012 N. Orange Ave., Sarasota, 7:30 p.m.

Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe (WBTT) welcomes singer, actress and entertainer Melba Moore back to Sarasota. Moore, who previously starred in WBTT’s sold-out run of “Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar and Grill” in 2018, will tell stories about her career, and light bites and beer and wine will be served.
