LaVerne Edwards Long


LaVerne Edwards Long, 93, passed away Wednesday, September 4, 2024. She was born in her beloved Bascom to John Edwards and Mattie Helen Dunaway Edwards. She lived the majority of her life in Bascom. Her later years were spent in Trenton then Newnan, GA to be near her daughters. 

In addition to owning and working in a general store with her husband Wilbur, she was a secretary to Jackson County Farm Bureau and County Veterans Service Office. She was a member of and pianist for Bascom Baptist Church. After moving to Trenton she volunteered with hospice. 

She is survived by her daughters Rita Arrington and Kaye Schulz, son-in-law William Schulz, grandsons Chris (Challis) and Drew (Emily) and granddaughter Lauren (Ali). In addition, she leaves five great-granddaughters, Mary Kate, Sarah, Nura, Sara, and Sofia. She is predeceased by her parents and siblings, Gerald, Waymer, Herschel, Bill, Mary, and Sally. In addition, son-in-law Wayne Arrington and grandson John Arrington. She also leaves behind much-loved nieces and nephews and many friends that she has stayed in contact with over the years. LaVerne made friends everywhere she went.

Services will be 2 PM (cst) Saturday, September 7th at James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel. 

Immediately following all are invited to a Gathering of friends and family at Bascom Baptist Church.
