A 60-year-old Georgia trucker died after multiple crashes Monday night on Interstate 75 near Wildwood.
He and another trucker came upon a debris-strewn crash which had occurred at 10:20 p.m. near Mile Marker 325, according to an accident report from the Florida Highway Patrol.

In the original crash, a Ford F-350 had been towing a motorhome, southbound on I-75. A tractor-trailer truck, which also was traveling southbound, overtook and collided with the Ford F-350 and motorhome. The trucker ran off the roadway, while the driver of the Ford F-350 managed to keep it under control and came to a stop on the shoulder. The motorhome was severely damaged, causing extensive debris to be scattered across all southbound lanes. A Honda CRV, which was traveling southbound on I-75, struck the debris in the roadway, and became disabled. All of the drivers in the crash escaped injury.
Following the original three-vehicle crash, traffic slowed and/or stopped. At 11:34 p.m., the Georgia man’s tractor-trailer failed to slow and collided with another tractor-trailer near Mile Marker 326. The collision caused a chain-reaction crash that involved two additional tractor-trailers. The Georgia man was ejected and suffered fatal injuries. He died at an area hospital. The driver of the second tractor-trailer suffered serious injuries and was also transported to an area hospital. The drivers of the other two tractor-trailer trucks reported no injuries.

As a result of the crash, all southbound lanes were closed with traffic diverted onto State Road 44. All southbound lanes finally reopened about noon Tuesday.
