In commemoration of International Holocaust Remembrance Day and part of the Real to Reel series, the documentary, “TRACES: Voices of the Second Generation” was shown on Jan. 25 to a crowd of nearly 100 community members, including several local Holocaust survivors and the children of survivors – commonly known as 2nd Generation.
Sponsor of the film was the Jewish Federation of Florida’s Gulf Coast, in partnership with The Florida Holocaust Museum and USF St. Pete, where the screening took place.
The event featured an introduction to the film, as well as a Q&A post film, with the writer, producer, and director Stacey Goldring. The conversation after the film included personal anecdotes evoked by the film, as well as information about how Goldring’s company, Searching for Identity, continues to touch 2nd generation survivors – offering them a space to open up about their unique upbringings.
The next Real to Reel will be on April 18 at Congregation Beth Shalom in Clearwater when the film “Xueta Island” will be screened.
