Four veteran groups will hold a flag disposal on February 15 at 10:00 a.m. at the American Legion Post. The post is located on at 3627 U.S. 90 on the old Jackson County Fairgrounds. An added special to this flag disposal is four gigantic U. S. American flags that have flown over the Anderson Columbia site over the last couple of years. They have been cut into squares for them to be burned on the 15th. We spoke with Ernie McNeill about the size of the flags that fly over the Anderson Columbia business. McNeill said due to the size of those flags, they had to be cut to fit into the fire pits for proper disposal. McNeill invited the public to come see the proper way to dispose of “Old Glory” and extended that invitation to students throughout Jackson County. The groups hosting this event are the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Disabled American Veterans, the Sons of the American Revolution, and American Legion. If you have flags you would like properly disposed of, you may drop them by the disposal container at Jim’s Steak House or call Past Commander Ernie McNeill at (850)209-1919.
