Horace C. Mears


Horace C. Mears, 82, of Cypress/Alliance community died Tuesday, October 22, 2024, at his home. A native and lifelong resident of Jackson County, Mr. Mears retired from the Jackson County School Board as a Transportation Specialist. He was an affectionate, dedicated and hardworking individual who always put the needs of others ahead of his own. He was also a master carpenter and during his retirement years he enjoyed working on projects for others and taking care of his cows around Strickland pond. 

He was preceded in death by his mother, Ethel W. Mears, and the love of his life, Jennell Bates. Survivors include his son, Michael Mears of Marianna, his step-daughter, Diann (Sean) Neel of Bainbridge, step grandchildren, Matt (Emily) Neel, Jessica (Stephan) Chavers, and Hunter Neel; as well as his dog, Jake. 

Private services were held Thursday, October 24, 2024, at James and Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel with Rev. Jack Hollis officiating. 

The family would like to thank Tyler Ellerbee and Dr. Joe Gay for their care during his lifetime.
